President Spright Dowell files, [ca. 1926-1954].

The collection consists of papers of Spright Dowell as President of Mercer University from ca. 1926-1954. The papers include clippings, correspondence, minutes of the Board of Trustees meetings, radio scripts, reports including the president's annual report to the Board, printed material, and speeches. The materials mainly document Dowell's activities as president of Mercer University while a few items pertain to Dowell's presidency of Alabama Polytechnical University (now Auburn University). The correspondence contains letters between Dowell and faculty or staff, students, trustees, and colleagues containing information on endowments, fundraising, curriculum, and the development of the ROTC program.
